Release 1.8.5 — SuperNodes Are Coming: Lumera’s Biggest Upgrade Yet Goes Live This Week

SHARE:
Lumera is entering a new era.

This week, we’re rolling out one of the most important upgrades in the project’s history — an update that brings SuperNodes to mainnet for the very first time and unlocks Cascade, our decentralized permanent storage module, for everyone.

This release has been months in the making. On the engineering side, it includes a huge amount of work across the core blockchain, IBC, CosmWasm, governance, and devnet infrastructure. But for the community, the meaning is simple:

SuperNodes are finally here. Cascade is going live. And Lumera is leveling up into the infrastructure layer it was built to be.

What Are SuperNodes?

Think of SuperNodes as the backbone of the Lumera ecosystem.

They aren’t normal validator nodes. Instead, SuperNodes are specialized service nodes that power Lumera’s core modules:

  • Cascade — Permanent, decentralized storage
  • Sense — AI-driven content authenticity & verification
  • Inference — On-chain AI/LLM compute

SuperNodes perform heavy computation and storage tasks that cannot be handled by regular validators. In return, they earn 98% of service fees paid by users and applications that interact with Cascade, Sense, and Inference.

With this upcoming upgrade, SuperNodes will be officially enabled on mainnet — allowing anyone approved as an operator to run one and begin earning real protocol revenue.

The Lumera Foundation will launch the first set of SuperNodes this week, followed shortly by our existing validator partners. This ensures stability, reliability, and a smooth initial rollout. And we’re just getting started: the Foundation is preparing a community SuperNode program that will support members of our ecosystem in running Supernodes themselves, opening the door for anyone to contribute to the network while earning rewards.

Cascade Opens to Everyone

With SuperNodes coming online, Lumera’s permanent storage module — Cascade — becomes available on mainnet for the first time.

Cascade is simple in concept but powerful in impact:

  • Users pay once to store data permanently.
  • Data is encoded, sharded, and distributed across SuperNodes.
  • The network self-heals to guarantee durability.

Developers, creators, protocols, and anyone building in Web3 can now store data on Cascade through our SDKs and gateway infrastructure.

This unlocks real-world use cases such as:

  • NFT permanence
  • On-chain AI datasets
  • Web3 gaming assets
  • RWA metadata
  • LUKSO digital fashion archives
  • Cross-chain proofs and data availability backups

Cascade is one of the most advanced decentralized storage protocols in the Cosmos ecosystem — and now it’s live.

What’s Changing Under the Hood?

While the upgrade contains hundreds of engineering improvements, here’s what matters to the community:

  1. SuperNodes now run on mainnet
All logic, verification, and module integration for SuperNodes is activated.
  2. Built-in checks and balances
The new release includes strong protections against malicious SuperNodes, including signature verification, identity checks, and redundancy across encoded shards.
  3. Seamless upgrades and stability
Upgrade handlers, testing frameworks, and devnet infrastructure have been reworked to make future module releases and performance improvements smooth and secure.
  4. Better interoperability through IBC v2
The chain now supports the latest IBC features — providing a stronger foundation for cross-chain SuperNode services, even beyond the Cosmos ecosystem.

What Does This Mean for Operators?

SuperNodes are becoming one of the most economically attractive roles in the Lumera ecosystem.

Operators will earn:

  • 98% of all Cascade, Sense, and Inference service fees
  • Rewards tied directly to real usage
  • Additional revenue as new modules and SDK integrations roll out

As applications start building on top of Lumera’s AI and storage stack, SuperNode operators benefit directly. This upgrade makes operating a SuperNode not only possible — but meaningful.

What It Means for the Community

For the first time, the entire Lumera vision becomes real:

  • A permanent storage network powered by community-run nodes
  • An AI and data authenticity layer built directly into the blockchain
  • Decentralized services supported by real economic incentives
  • Infrastructure that any project can integrate without trusting a centralized provider

This release doesn’t just add features — it activates the core architecture that Lumera has been building toward from day one.

What Comes Next?

Once SuperNodes are live on mainnet, the next phase begins:

  • Opening SuperNode registration to more operators
  • Distributing API access to developers
  • Launching Cascade dashboards, analytics, and SDKs
  • Integrations with ecosystem partners (LUKSO and others)
  • Expanding Sense and Inference for broader on-chain AI adoption

Lumera is becoming the chain where AI, storage, and digital authenticity converge — and community-operated SuperNodes are the foundation.

Final Thoughts

This week’s upgrade is one of the biggest milestones in Lumera’s history.

By bringing SuperNodes to mainnet and unlocking Cascade for everyone, we’re turning Lumera into a fully operational decentralized service network — one capable of powering the next generation of Web3 applications, AI systems, and digital ecosystems.

The vision is coming to life.
The infrastructure is ready.
And the community is about to take the network into its next chapter.

SuperNodes go live this week.
Cascade becomes open to all.
Welcome to the new Lumera.

About Lumera Protocol

Lumera Protocol is a high-performance blockchain purpose-built for AI-driven Web3 economies, integrating a Validator-SuperNode architecture to enable decentralized AI services, trustless computation, and secure data storage. Built on cometBFT Proof-of-Stake (PoS), Lumera ensures cross-chain compatibility, efficient AI data sharing, and scalable interoperability.

At its core, Lumera’s SuperNode-powered infrastructure extends beyond validation to support LLM hosting, autonomous agents, task verification, and cross-network communication, with governance driven by a stake-weighted system. Its adaptive tokenomics dynamically adjust inflation based on network participation, ensuring economic sustainability.

Lumera also introduces an Action & Agent Framework, powering decentralized AI services through specialized Actions (e.g., Cascade for storage, Sense for verification) and Agents (e.g., Inference for AI computation). By merging AI, decentralized computation, and blockchain security, Lumera sets a new standard for AI-powered applications and autonomous services in Web3.
